Recipe calculator

Calories per Serving Calculator

Estimate calories per serving by adding the calorie values for your recipe ingredients. Enter the total calories for the amount of each ingredient used, then divide the recipe total by the number of servings.

Calculate recipe calories

Use nutrition labels or a reliable food-composition database to enter the calories for each ingredient.

How many portions the full recipe makes.
Enter one ingredient total per line. Commas and semicolons also work. Each number should cover the full amount of that ingredient used in the recipe.

How the calories per serving calculator works

The calculator adds the ingredient calorie values you provide to estimate the recipe's total energy. It then divides that total by the serving count you enter. The tool does not identify ingredients, retrieve nutrition information, or measure portion sizes automatically.

Calories per serving = sum of ingredient calories ÷ number of servings

Example calculation

Suppose the ingredients in a recipe add up to 1,760 kcal and the finished recipe makes four equal servings. The estimate is 440 kcal per serving.

This is a mathematical example, not a nutrition claim for a particular recipe. Actual results depend on the values and quantities entered.

What can affect the estimate?

  • Ingredient quantity: enter calories for the amount used in the recipe.
  • Brand and preparation: products and cooking methods can have different nutrition values.
  • Cooking additions: oils, butter, dressings and sauces may add energy.
  • Serving size: the result assumes the recipe is divided into the number of portions entered.
  • Rounding: food labels and databases may round values, so calculations are estimates rather than exact measurements.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate calories per serving?

Add the calories for all ingredients used in the full recipe, then divide the total by the number of servings.

Should I enter calories per 100 grams or for the amount I used?

Enter calories for the actual amount used. If a label gives calories per 100 grams, calculate the value for your ingredient quantity before entering it.

Does this calculator identify foods automatically?

No. It only adds the calorie numbers you enter and divides by your serving count. It does not scan labels or look up foods.

Why might my result differ from a food label or another calculator?

Differences can come from ingredient brands, quantities, preparation methods, serving sizes and rounding of nutrition values.

Is the result medical or dietary advice?

No. This is an educational calculation tool. Individual nutrition needs vary; consult a qualified healthcare professional or registered dietitian for personal advice.
