How the height converter works

The converter changes your entered value into a standard metre-based measurement, then converts that measurement into your selected output unit. Results are rounded for readability, so a displayed value may not show every decimal place.

Conversion formulas

1 inch = 2.54 centimetres · 1 foot = 12 inches · 1 metre = 100 centimetres

To convert centimetres to inches, divide the centimetre value by 2.54. To convert centimetres to feet, divide by 30.48. To convert metres to centimetres, multiply by 100.

Decimal feet versus feet and inches

A result such as 5.75 feet is a decimal-foot measurement. It is not the same display as 5 feet 9 inches, although the values are equivalent. For a familiar height format, convert to inches and divide by 12: the whole-number portion is feet and the remainder is inches.
