Macro Calculator

Convert a calorie amount and selected carbohydrate, protein and fat percentages into grams. Use the example splits or enter your own percentages.

Calculate macro grams

Enter a calorie amount and choose how to divide it between the three macronutrients. The presets are examples, not recommendations.

Percentages should add up to 100%.

The calculation uses approximate energy factors of 4 kcal/g for carbohydrate, 4 kcal/g for protein and 9 kcal/g for fat. Results are arithmetic conversions, not personalized nutrition advice.

How this macro calculator works

First, the calculator allocates the calorie total according to the percentage entered for each macronutrient. It then converts calories to grams using these approximate factors:

  • Carbohydrates: 4 kcal per gram.
  • Protein: 4 kcal per gram.
  • Fat: 9 kcal per gram.

For example, if a user enters 2,000 kcal and allocates 40% to carbohydrates, 800 kcal are assigned to carbohydrates. Dividing 800 by 4 gives 200 grams. The same method is applied to protein and fat, using their respective factors.

Frequently asked questions

What does a macro calculator calculate?

It converts a calorie total and selected percentages for carbohydrates, protein and fat into approximate grams per day.

Do the percentages need to add up to 100?

Yes. The three percentages must total 100% so the calculator allocates the full calorie amount without leaving a gap or exceeding the total.

Are the example macro splits recommended diets?

No. They are sample arithmetic splits to demonstrate the calculation. They are not intended as universal targets or individualized nutrition recommendations.

Why are calories per gram different for fat?

For this standard conversion, fat is calculated at approximately 9 kcal per gram, while carbohydrate and protein are each calculated at approximately 4 kcal per gram.

Can this calculator tell me what I should eat?

No. It only converts percentages into grams. It does not assess medical needs, food quality, micronutrients or whether a particular split is appropriate for you.
